Pakistan Asian Games 2026 cricket campaign has reached the final after Pakistan defeated Bangladesh by six wickets in the men’s semi-final in Nisshin, Japan.

Pakistan Asian Games 2026 journey has now reached the gold-medal match after a strong performance with both bat and ball. The rain-reduced semi-final was played over 13 overs per side, with Bangladesh scoring 111 for 7 before Pakistan chased the target in 11.3 overs.

The match at Korogi Sports Park was reduced to 13 overs per side because of the weather. Bangladesh posted 111 for 7 after being asked to bat first, while Pakistan chased down the target in just 11.3 overs to book their place in the gold-medal match.

Pakistan’s victory was built around a strong bowling performance followed by a late batting surge from Abdul Samad and Hasan Nawaz.

Bangladesh Post 111 Runs

Bangladesh started their innings under pressure as Pakistan’s bowlers made early breakthroughs.

Towhid Hridoy was Bangladesh’s top scorer, making 42 runs from 25 balls. His innings included two fours and four sixes and helped Bangladesh recover after they had slipped to 45 for four.

Hridoy formed a partnership with Mosaddek Hossain during the middle overs and helped Bangladesh move beyond the 100-run mark.

Pakistan’s spinners played an important role in restricting the Bangladesh total. Sufyan Moqim was the leading wicket-taker, finishing with three wickets for 26 runs, while Arafat Minhas claimed two wickets for 23 runs.

Saim Ayub also contributed with the ball, taking one wicket while conceding only three runs from his two overs.

Bangladesh eventually finished on 111 for 7 from their 13 overs.

Pakistan’s Chase Starts With Early Setbacks

Pakistan’s chase did not begin smoothly.

Captain Sahibzada Farhan was dismissed for just one run in the opening over. Maaz Sadaqat then provided some momentum with a quick 15 from seven balls before losing his wicket.

Saim Ayub continued the attacking approach and scored 21 from 12 deliveries, including a four and two sixes.

However, Pakistan lost wickets at regular intervals. Usman Khan was dismissed for 14, leaving Pakistan at 53 for four inside seven overs.

At that stage, Bangladesh had an opportunity to put pressure on the Pakistan batting lineup.

Abdul Samad and Hasan Nawaz Change the Match

The situation changed when Abdul Samad joined Hasan Nawaz at the crease.

The two batters formed an unbeaten 59-run partnership for the fifth wicket and took control of the chase.

Hasan Nawaz remained unbeaten on 27 from 22 balls, hitting two fours and two sixes.

Abdul Samad produced the decisive innings of the match. He scored an unbeaten 30 from only 15 balls, including five fours and one six.

His most important over came against Mustafizur Rahman. With Pakistan requiring 36 runs from the final four overs, Samad attacked the Bangladesh bowler and collected 22 runs from five balls in the over.

The over produced 23 runs in total and moved Pakistan from 76 for four to 99 for four.

With only 13 runs needed from the final 18 balls, Pakistan completed the chase comfortably.

Pakistan finished on 112 for 4 in 11.3 overs, winning the semi-final by six wickets.

Pakistan Secure a Place in the Gold-Medal Match

The victory means Pakistan are through to the men’s cricket final of the Asian Games 2026.

According to the Pakistan Cricket Board, Pakistan will face the winner of the second semi-final between India and Sri Lanka in the gold-medal match.

The final is scheduled for Saturday, October 3, at the same venue in Nisshin, Japan.

Bangladesh, meanwhile, will play in the bronze-medal match.

Rain Has Played a Major Role

Weather has affected the cricket competition at the Asian Games.

Pakistan’s quarter-final against Hong Kong was abandoned without a ball being bowled because of persistent rain. Pakistan progressed to the semi-finals under the tournament’s rules because of their superior ICC T20I ranking.

The Bangladesh side also reached the semi-final without playing its quarter-final after weather disrupted the schedule.

The semi-final between Pakistan and Bangladesh was therefore one of the first major opportunities for both teams to play meaningful knockout cricket at the tournament.

A Chance for Asian Games Gold

Pakistan’s six-wicket victory has secured at least a silver medal and given the team an opportunity to compete for Asian Games gold.

The performance also highlighted the depth of Pakistan’s young batting group, particularly during the difficult stage of the chase.

Abdul Samad’s unbeaten 30 and Hasan Nawaz’s unbeaten 27 provided the finishing partnership Pakistan needed, while Sufyan Moqim and Arafat Minhas helped restrict Bangladesh earlier in the match.

The gold-medal match on October 3 will now determine whether Pakistan can finish the Asian Games cricket campaign with gold.

For Pakistan cricket fans, attention will turn to the second semi-final and the final as the team prepares for its biggest match of the Asian Games tournament.
